A View from the Outside

What a wonderful process and year this has been. I want to thank the people of District 4 for an incredible year. I also want to thank the organizations that have put forth a tremendous effort to empower voters.  It is so important to be able to listen to open, honest and candid debates between candidates. When candidates refuse to participate it cheats the voters and demonstrates a lack of respect for those they desire to serve.

I want to thank the Champion Newspaper for providing a snapshot of what took place on October 20th with the League of Women Voters. The article can be viewed here.

Please take the time to read my plan to move our community forward and have had the opportunity to hear my plans to unite our district and address the corruption in government.

We are moving beyond party politics and I have appreciated the open, honest and candid discussions across our district.

Today, Friday, is the last day to vote early. Please take the opportunity to cast your vote and let your voice be heard. If not today, vote on November 2nd.  Precinct locations can be found here.

Information is power and when we engage it is unstoppable!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

Carter Thanks Over a Dozen Organizations

Rep. Hank Johnson Concedes Organizational Support

(ATLANTA)— Congressional candidate Liz Carter thanks Rep. Hank Johnson for stating the following organizations, who have held forums and debates, are supporting her campaign:

DeKalb League of Women Voters
South Rockdale Civic Association
Rockdale Cares
NAACP
Citizens Progressive Club
Gwinnett League of Women Voters
Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church
Tucker Business Association
United Peachtree Corners Civic Association
Main Street Tucker Alliance
Rockdale 20 Coalition
Smoke Rise Community Association
Tucker Civic Association
Junior League of DeKalb
Delta Sigma Theta Alumni

“The only people demanding a forum was the candidate herself and her supporters,” Johnson reported to the Gwinnett Daily Post. “I don’t need to have a forum with (my opponent) in order to make my views known to the public because they’re already known.”

“I’m shocked to say the least, that Hank would continue this type of arrogance and insult the above organizations and the voters,” Carter said. “I don’t believe I have the 100 percent support of the organizations listed above, but Hank’s statement in the Gwinnett Daily Post demonstrates a complete lack of respect for these organizations and the work they have done to inform voters across this district. It is very clear he will not work with everyone and he is the wrong person to send to Washington.”

The article from the Gwinnett Daily Post was released October 26 and can be found here.

Victory is Within Reach!

Momentum is on our side and victory for the people of District 4 is within reach! Everyday people are calling, placing signs and getting involved – people representing every political party, race, age and gender! Thank you so much for such incredible support and believing that we must get beyond party politics to move our Country forward.

Last week I sent out our plan to move our Country forward, if you didn’t get a chance to see it, it can be viewed here.

I ask for your continued support and your vote on November 2nd.

The FEC financials have been updated again and the people have spoken – as they will on November 2nd. As of the latest financial disclosures, we have clearly gained the momentum, and we have raised more money and have more cash on hand than Hank Johnson.  With your help, I have raised double during the 13-day reporting cycle.   Momentum is on our side!

What is even more amazing is what we have done with your contributions in comparison to what Hank has done. I do not believe I should financially gain from campaign contributions, I do not believe in wasteful spending, and I do not take your money for granted – be it contributions or tax dollars.

I set a goal of 200 people donating $50.00 or more. We are more than halfway and just need 65 people to donate in order to reach that goal. Will you be one of the last 65? We have an opportunity to strike once more to secure a Victory on November 2nd. If you can, please donate today.

Just think when that broadcaster scratches his head on election night and says “Liz Carter has won Georgia’s District 4,” what a resounding message will be sent across our Country.  The energy that will be shot directly at the West Coast where Nancy Pelosi is defending her seat will be amazing.

I look forward to celebrating with you on the evening of November 2nd at the Doubletree Hotel. It will be an incredible party and all are welcome to join. The party will start at 7 p.m. Directions and hotel information can be found here.

National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors Endorse Carter

WDPAC supports Carter’s pro-business stance

(ATLANTA)— Congressional candidate Liz Carter has formally received the endorsement of the Wholesaler-Distributor Political Action Committee (WDPAC) in her campaign for the Georgia’s 4th Congressional District seat.

WDPAC is the political arm of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW)—a Washington, DC-based trade association that is the national voice of the wholesale distribution industry. WDPAC endorses pro-business candidates supportive of the wholesale distribution industry.

WDPAC Political Director Jim Anderson said WDPAC measures candidates for federal office based on their belief in low taxes, spending and borrowing and fiscal responsibility rooted in limited government; free enterprise in which economic outcomes are driven by market forces and not by politically-motivated manipulation of markets by the federal government; and a rational regulatory environment that leaves business owners free to grow their businesses, earn profits, attract investment capital and create jobs.

Anderson said that during the current 111th Congress, U.S. Representative Hank Johnson has failed to register a “correct” vote on any issue the WDPAC has identified as a “key vote.”

“Mrs. Carter, on the other hand, has taken pro-free enterprise positions on several issues our members care about,” Anderson said. “Including extension of the tax rates enacted in 2001 and 2003, oversight of federal spending programs, ‘cap and trade’ and energy supply, and health care,” Anderson said.

The evidence of Carter’s commitment to limited government, fiscal responsibility, low taxes and free markets resulted in the WDPAC endorsement.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of WDPAC,” Liz said. “Pro-business policies are key to getting people back to work and turning around our economy. It is obvious by the lack of growth and increased unemployment that we need individuals with business experience and pro-business solutions.”

Undeniable Foreclosure Facts

Rep. Hank Johnson’s increased spending of borrowed monies is killing our economy and hurting our community.

Hank touted this week that over $7 Million in Neighborhood Stabilization grants are heading to DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. These funds are the third round of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Previously, DeKalb received $18.5 million, Rockdale received $2.7 million and Gwinnett received $3 million in the first round.  Additional money is going to the State of Georgia, so Rockdale can apply to the State for additional funds.

Hmmm, how’s that working out?

  • The monies go to the county to buy foreclosed property; it does not go to save the family from losing their home.
  • Foreclosures jumped 25% in August. A 25% increase after multiple foreclosure programs, bank bailouts and yes, neighborhood stabilization grants were deployed. These programs obviously did not reach the advertised recipients.
  • And by the way, five Georgia banks are behind on “TARP” payments.

THESE ALL ARE FAILED POLICIES, that sounded great, but did not work.

Where is our Representative when it comes to holding these banks responsible for actually helping families? Who is monitoring the banks and the process for receiving your tax money in the form of TARP funding? Who is monitoring the monies that went to the counties to “stabilize” the housing values?  Why are we still throwing our borrowed money at bad policies?

How does anyone think that borrowing more money to bailout banks is going to help return jobs back to our community in order for people to have the ability to make their mortgage payments?

If you elect me, I will fight to hold the recipients of your tax dollars accountable.  Why does Hank tout bringing money back to our district, when he cannot explain where or how the money was used? It is the responsibility of your representative to make sure that your money is spent to help the people of district 4, the money should be benefiting YOU. Why won’t Hank show up to debate to explain his policies and where your money was spent?  My guess on that answer; he does not know and the increased foreclosure rates speak for themselves.

When Congress creates legislation to spend your money and to borrow more money that increases our deficit, which we, as taxpayers must repay, it also has a responsibility to make sure the money is used appropriately. All these bailouts and foreclosure programs were developed without benchmarks to hold the banking industry responsible. In some cases, the banks have tried to pay money back, but their hands are tied because of previous federal regulations that were not removed or considered before being “loaned” bailout funds.

It’s time to hold those who received your money responsible in helping stabilize our neighborhoods.

It’s time for fiscal accountability and responsibility. Hank’s policies have failed our community and put our children’s future at risk.

I will fight to do what is right, not what comes easy. We must create policies that enable companies to reinvest in expanding and opening up new job opportunities. We must get our community back to work.  We need to keep money in our pocket and stop it from being spent on failed policies.

Save the date – Health Care Town Hall

Carter Hosts Health Care Town Hall
Dr. English explains how the health care legislation impacts you

Congressional candidate, Liz Carter, will host a meeting with Dr. Jeffrey B. English at the City of Lilburn Auditorium on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 7-8:30 p.m.

Dr. English, a Board Certified Neurologist with sub-specialty training in Clinical Neurophysiology, is in private practice in Atlanta, Ga. He is the Clinical Research Director at the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, a non-profit organization he helped develop for the treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis.

A national speaker on multiple sclerosis and on the economics of health care delivery, Dr. English writes a health care series, “HC on Call.” The series focuses on issues such as socialized medicine around the world, Medicare, and the recently passed health care legislation.

The meeting on Thursday will be a review of the recently passed healthcare legislation where Dr. English will share how it impacts our daily lives.

Dr. English is dedicated to educating patients about the health care system and how the recent legislation will drastically change the relationship between doctors and patients.

U.S. Representative Nominee for Georgia District 4 Liz Carter agrees. “There are key issues that every citizen and business owner needs to be aware of and understand,” she said.

The meeting in the auditorium is located at 76 Main Street, Lilburn, Ga.

START Treaty

The United States is the protector of many, a threat to none.
Russia is a threat to many, a protector of none.
Parity is an insult.

Do not be fooled for one minute to believe that the START Treaty will help eliminate nuclear weapons around the world. This Treaty is between the United States and Russia – not Iran, North Korea and many others. Pure transparency with other countries is extremely risky when it comes to national defense, especially in a very weakened economy.

Limiting ourselves for the sake of “appeasement” is not the answer and puts our nation at a disadvantage. History has shown that “appeasement” does not make people love and come together.

The START Treaty is appeasement and an insult.

It’s Labor Day Weekend

It seems that these days, political seasons are about as frequent as monthly bills.  Just when you think you have a window of peaceful bliss and sound mind, radio and TV ads, the roadways, and your mailbox begin to explode with declarations, messages, and sound bites.  It’s no wonder that so many people are turned off and driven away from ever participating in elections that decide the courses of our neighborhoods, counties, states, and our country.

While I don’t enjoy imposing on your time, I do feel it is extremely necessary to stay the course and stomach the negatives of campaign season.  Whether you have a (D) or an (R) behind your name, there is a lot more that unites us, than divides us.

On November 2nd you will be asked to make your way to the polls once again.  There you will get to decide the next Governor of our great state and the next representative from Georgia’s 4th District, as well as the occupant of a host of other local and state offices.

Over the next couple of months, I’d like you to put aside party affiliation, and concentrate on what’s most important to you and your family.  Then look at the candidates involved and study their stances on those issues.  As I’ve said before, we share many more similarities than differences.  I’m willing to bet that once you look at Congressman Hank Johnson’s voting record and his views on the most important issue facing our district and our nation and then compare them with mine, you’ll see that party means nothing.  I’m a mom, a business owner, and a proud resident of Georgia’s 4th.  I know what residents here want for themselves and their families.

Over the past year I have listened to many in our district, attended community and neighborhood meetings, and I know our district is ready for strong representation. I’ve heard the need for a representative to fight for what is right and to be present and accessible at all times, not just during campaign season. I know what it takes to run a tight budget and to live within my means.  I know the agony that parents go through as they dwell on how best to give their kids the best opportunities possible.

You’re going to be hearing a lot of talking heads over the next several months spitting out quick sound bites and meaningless jabber.  What I’d like to do is breakdown the most important votes and debates that our country’s leaders (including Congressman Johnson) have voted on over the last few years.  Why are they important?  What do they mean for you and your family?  What’s really buried in the thousands of pages of laws that have been passed?  Our elected officials can’t look you in the face and answer those questions.  That is exactly what I’m going to be doing over the coming weeks.

It is unrealistic to strive for one hundred percent agreement on all things all the time. I strive for the day when our political discourse is ruled by logic, common sense, and facts…not political side shows and amateurish magical facades.  You and your family deserve no less.  Nor does our district and state.

It’s time for real accountability in DC.  I hope you will give me the honor of serving you and the 4th.

Have a safe and prosperous Labor Day Weekend!
