How many soapboxes can I possibly have and stand on at one time? As many as it takes to hold people accountable and uphold the liberties and freedom of my Country. Lately I have more boxes than I would like, simply because individuals are attempting to strip liberties away, one by one in the name of “conservatism”, “equality”, or worst yet, in the name of “God”.
It was John Adams who said “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds” I can only imagine the soapboxes that John Adams spoke on so many years ago. If he were alive today my bet is he would have many of the same boxes.
Our Founding Fathers provided a governing structure and definition of power within the Constitution. But they did not tell us how a moral life within our Country should be led. Why? Our Founding Fathers hoped that we would uphold the Constitution and live our lives according to Judeo-Christian values. Values that are based upon free will and man’s ability to do what is right and follow the teachings of the Jewish prophets and the teachings of Christ – NOT the laws governing the land. Values that were not identical, but promoted the collective and common concept of liberty.
The Constitution does not deal with or dictate morality, in fact it provides for freedom of religion, meaning freedom of belief and freedom of worship with the absence of any state-sponsored religion. We have freedom of religion that promotes and complements the Founding Fathers belief of free will and individual accountability. The concept of legislating social morality and conformity is not what America stands for, and is actually an Eastern belief.
It is a slippery slope when we allow one religion to dictate or base legislation on one religion over another. When religious zealots use claims of “Judeo-Christian” in their calls for social morality, they are fighting against the core value and fundamental beliefs of our Founding Fathers.
It is the fault of individual men, not government, for the stripping away of certain religious references and the presence of God in our daily lives. It is the lack of faith and strength to stand up and shout on a liberty soapbox.
If our Country became even more lost and was overtaken by the Muslim extremist, how would these same zealots argue against the majority wanting Sharia Law?
I am a Christian, but our Country is a melting pot with fundamental beliefs that are being stripped away and we are giving our liberties and will to the government. It is wrong doing so in the name of God or in the name of equality.
Conservatives and Republicans must stand strong on our call for limited government, promoting individual accountability. If we do not and allow ourselves to be pulled into the “social morality” realm, we are no better than those calling for government control in the name of equality.
