Johnson Calls Minnesota Psychotic

Rep “Hank” Johnson Wanders Off Script

(Atlanta) -  Representative “Hank” Johnson wanders off script when introducing the Honorable James Oberstar at the 25th anniversary celebration and community improvement district recognition Monday the 16th.

“I am certain that the people of Georgia and specifically District 4, do not believe Congressman Oberstar or the people of Minnesota are psychotic. It’s clear that Hank wandered off of his written speech to introduce the Honorable James Oberstar.” states Liz Carter, Congressional Nominee for Georgia District 4. “He seemed fine, until I saw him stop reading his speech and start fumbling down the wrong path. His remarks are inappropriate and once again he’s embarrassed me, a resident of District 4.”

  1. Liz, I just saw your blip on channel 2 news, which by the way is owned by my parent company (COX)…but i digress. Please stick to the issues and what you can do for the district and do not subjugate the NRP with rhetoric. I had thought you were above the desperate attempts of character assassination but now I see otherwise. If this was something your campaign manager thought up…FIRE HIM NOW… If you win…win with class and dignity and if you lose…lose with that same level of class and dignity. At this rate you will sell your soul to the devil for that seat. It is tactics like these that have me on the fence about which party to vote, and I am a long standing republican, but lately I hate what we stand for…to vote Democrat in this upcoming election may be my best option…the lesser of two evils. Just stick to the pertinent facts, issues, and your plan to resolve those issues and you could hold your head up high again.

  2. Rek, I’m sorry you don’t like that I’ve called out Rep Johnson on his embarrassing remarks. One of the issues we have in district 4 is the fact that we continue to be embarrassed by our representatives. This isn’t about character assassination, it’s about Hanks ability to lead and garner respect. It is not right that our representative is conducting himself in an embarrassing manner and that others look down upon our district because of his behavior.

If you can’t garner respect from others, you can’t negotiate and get things done for your district. This is evident by the decline in our district for the past 20 years. Cynthia McKinney conducted herself poorly and did not help this district – now we have Hank who is doing the same thing.

District 4 deserves STRONG Professional representation. Hank is too busy playing party politics, instead of fighting for our district. Prime example is the South River that is contaminated and polluted with feces and runs through our district. It is my understanding from the county that the Federal Government owns part of it – yet nothing has been done and he didn’t even send a representative to the community meetings that I attend.

It’s not about character assassinations it is about the issues. We need reduced taxes, efficiencies and cost cutting measures. We don’t need a man who votes 98% with party to make his party happy – we need someone to challenge the status quo and fight for District 4. Hank has been non-existent until campaign time.

This is NOT a campaign party trick, I’m pointing out that Hank has a pattern of embarrassing comments – from inappropriate racial statements, to inappropriate viagra statements, to ridiculous comments about Guam and now Minnesota. It’s a pattern showing he’s not fit to serve in Congress any longer.

  3. Liz,
I agree with Mr. Carter. Although you make some excellent points, it’s all about timing. I was there for the event and although Johnson’s comments were a bit out of line, he did a great job with his overall introduction, so you would lose some points for zooming in on his “bad” comments. Also, it gives the wrong impression for his overall introduction (i.e. taken out of context), especially for someone like myself who was there.

You are a strong candidate, but the risk is too high when you dwell on matters that voters will interpret as a personal attach (voters will not hear you when you are strong on the issues – especially the ones on the fence like Mr. Carter and myself).

You are going to have to win some votes from the other side, but it does not help you to lose “your” votes.

  4. Thank you for your feedback, but again my point is he’s not 100% fit to serve. For example, when your star player on your sports team is not performing 100% to ability or expectation, the team benches him. If it continues, he’s traded or cut. We should not have to worry about what comes out of our Representatives mouth; it is not fair to this district. We have lost too much ground and respect and we have to change it.

I’m not running a full negative campaign on his behavior, but it has to be pointed out. As you will see from many of my posts and communications, I’ve stayed on issues. In addition, Hank refuses to debate me or show up to events that I am at.

But I would ask you – as someone who is fighting an incumbent, how else do you expect a candidate to garner national attention, without pointing out the things he is doing wrong? It’s a fine line and I’m attempting to walk it. I could highlight much worse, but have not and will not. Hank is a good man, but is not the right representative for this district.

BTW – I hold myself to these same standards and if elected and I do a poor job and embarrass this district – I too should be traded or cut.

I welcome you to attend one of our events or come by the office to talk with me.

  5. It isn’t “character assassination” to highlight mistakes and gaffes by an opponent. The quotes that Liz has brought attention to, can be directly tied to Congressman Johnson’s inability to properly represent the people of the 4th district. These comments weren’t taped behind closed doors or in his living room, they were made while he was serving in his official capacity as a U.S. Representative. If material such as this can’t be discussed, then you’re already putting Liz behind the 8-ball.
Using these comments, as well as breaking down his voting patterns, will help form the perfect picture as to why we need to remove him from office. Liz can’t afford to be hamstrung by not being allowed to bring forth comments that Johnson made in committee rooms and on the floor of the House of Representatives. Remember, Cynthia McKinney made all kinds of ridiculous comments during her time in office…and those comments were the catalyst that lead to Johnson’s election.

  6. Personally, I won’t vote for someone just to vote against someone who says stupid things. I am most concerned with the economy and I think the majority of the 4th district is too. However, the only specific idea of yours I can find is a youtube clip where you say “we can create jobs by cutting corporate taxes and employment taxes.”

Is that all you’ve got? I certainly want immigration enforcement increased to make more jobs available, but what good is that if you allow those jobs to be sent out of the country? If we keep the free trade agreements we currently have and continue to impose little or no tariffs on imported goods from these free trade partners, why would any manufacturing business remain in the US? If the status quo continues, the costs will always be lower and the profits greater if a company moves its manufacturing jobs to a third world country.

What ideas do you have that will halt the departure of jobs from our country and return the jobs that have already been outsourced?

  7. Devon,
Please read some of the prior articles on my blog and visit my website – http://www.lizcarterforcongress.com I’ve put forth multiple solutions beyond just cutting corporate taxes. However, I’m sure you realize that if we create pro-business policies, cut the corporate tax and eliminate the payroll tax – jobs will return to our country.

Have you read my stance on immigration? I believe you’ll be pleased and would agree.

My campaign is not about running against someone who says stupid things, it’s about delivering strong leadership and representation for district 4 – something we have not had for years. It’s about uniting a this district and working to end the party politic game and doing what is right for the people.

    Thanks for getting involved!
