“We the Republicans of Morehouse College proudly endorse Liz Carter in her bid for Congress. Liz’s ability to outreach to minorities in the district and reach them with a message of conservatism makes her the best candidate. We the Republicans at Morehouse College believe in rebuilding, uplifting and empowering our communities, Liz Carter has gone to great lengths to show a new era of Conservatism, one that is more inclusive, one that represents the many faces of America. We ask that you join us by supporting her, we recognize that many African Americans shy away when they hear the word Republican but it’s time for us to elect people that will truly represent the needs of our community and there is no better person for the job then Liz Carter.”

Liz Carter had this to say about the announcement, “Morehouse has a tradition and reputation of building the future gentlemen and leaders of the community which is why I am so honored to receive this glowing endorsement. I look forward to working with them as we continue to unite this district, making it the shining jewel of Georgia once more.”

In Honor of Memorial Day

Fight Songs!

The United States Air Force Song

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun.
Here they come, zooming to meet our thunder;
At ‘em boys, give ‘er the gun!
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one hell-of-a-roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame.
NOTHING WILL STOP THE U.S. AIR FORCE!

The Army Goes Rolling Along
The official United States Army Theme Song – Based on “The Caissons Go Rolling Along” by Brigadier General E.L. Gruber

First to fight for the right,
And to build the Nation’s might,
And The Army Goes Rolling Along
Proud of all we have done,
Fighting till the battle’s won,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along.

Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hey!
The Army’s on its way.
Count off the cadence loud and strong
(TWO! THREE!)
For where e’er we go,
You will always know
That the Army Goes Rolling Along.

Anchors Aweigh
The United States Navy Theme Song

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more,
Here’s wishing you a happy voyage home.

The Marines Hymn

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We will fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
United States Marine.

Semper Paratus (Always Ready)
The United States Coast Guard Theme Song

From North and South and East and West,
The Coast Guard’s in the fight.
Destroying subs and landing troops,
The Axis feels our might.
For we’re the first invaders,
On every fighting field.
Afloat, ashore, on men and Spars,
You’ll find the Coast Guard shield.

In addition to our military, please honor and thank our public safety personnel – they are our first responders and deserve our support.

Carter Denounces Johnson’s Anti-Second Amendment Bill

U.S. Rep. Johnson seeks to take away rights from responsible gun owners and override pending State legislation

(ATLANTA)—U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson has introduced invasive federal legislation to limit the rights of Georgia gun owners – a move consistent with his lack of regard for the Second Amendment, according to Republican Liz Carter.

Johnson’s bill countermands pending state legislation that would allow law-abiding, fully licensed gun owners from having their weapons in their car while at the airport’s curbside areas. Johnson is again seeking to abuse the power of the Federal Government by over reaching and demonstrating he does not respect the Second or Tenth Amendments.

Carter said Johnson’s reasoning that permitted gun carriers may spark a national terrorism incident is misleading and insulting.

“The tragic events of Sept. 11 where not the acts of gunmen taking hostages and hijacking airplanes with the use of firearms,” Carter said. “Using 9/11 as a justification shows a lack of memory and reason.  Those terrorists used box cutters.  It is an exercise of disrespectful disinformation to paint the citizens of Georgia as potential terrorists.  National studies show that criminal behavior of virtually any measurable type diminishes where gun permits flourish.

“Hank Johnson has consistently shown himself weak in supporting our Constitutionally guaranteed Second and Tenth Amendment rights,” she added.  “Now he has genuinely gone on the offensive to attack our rights and make criminal our freedom to defend ourselves from crime.  There is no justifiable reason for right-thinking people to support Johnson’s damning legislative agenda.”

Every Day is Memorial Day

Last Saturday, the 15th of May, I was honored to be a part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Loyalty Day. As a daughter of a WWII B-17 Bombardier and Navigator, I was raised to honor our military and to defend our great nation. I was honored to co-present Jacob Brown, a 7th grader from General Ray Davis Middle School, with his first place award. Jacob brought tears to my eyes when he read his essay. I have posted Jacob’s essay as well as the article from the Rockdale Citizen below.

To Jacob: you are wise beyond your years and have shared a sentiment that is so needed in our country today. Thank you for allowing me to share in your success.

When is the right time to honor our military heroes?

By Jacob Brown

In order to answer the question of when is the right time to honor our military heroes you must first define what a military hero is. Does a serviceman or servicewoman have to fight in a conflict to be considered a hero? Do they have to be given a medal or award from the branch of service in which they serve before they can be considered heroes? Likewise, is a hero someone who goes beyond the call of duty, or can it be someone who simply does his duty?

Throughout the history of the United States millions of people have served in the military. Each and every one of them who served honorably is a hero.  Although many of those served during times of war many others did not. Similarly, not all who served during times of war actually saw combat. Serving in the military, whether it is in times of peace or during times of war, requires a great deal of sacrifice. Sacrifice for all of our servicemen and servicewomen comes in the form of time away from family and loved ones, and sadly for others it has meant permanent physical and or mental wounds. The lives of members of the military are ones full of stress and danger, and for far too many has been the ultimate sacrifice made for his or her country.

When is the right time to honor our military heroes?  As a nation, the United States honors its heroes with two holidays, Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, but these two days are not the only time we should honor them. After all, the freedom they have and do protect is enjoyed by all Americans each and every day.  Their service has given them a unique perspective on what so many take for granted. This perspective is best summed up by folk singer Bob Dylan who said, “I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom.”  Anyone who served our country in the military is a hero, especially those who died for our country. When is the right time to honor our military heroes? The answer is, anytime and every time you get an opportunity to honor a military hero is the right time. Heartfelt, genuine appreciation never needs a special day, time, or place.

Unity

Never in my life have I experienced and witnessed such anger, fear and actions divide our communities and nation. Today I am saddened by the actions of fellow candidates and divisive leaders, but today I also stand with a greater resolve to fight to unite my district and this great nation.

Other candidates think it is okay to twist the truth and smear fellow candidates, when our U.S. Attorney General feels it is okay to disparage a law he has not read. Candidates feel it is okay to use racial and social issues to divide a district, when current Congressional leaders falsely accuse other Americans of using racial slurs and talk of “white hoods and white uniforms”.  Candidates feel it is okay to have supporters lie and smear another, instead of focusing on issues, when Nancy Pelosi spews her evil venom based on emotion and nothing of substance.

The role of the Federal Government is to create an infrastructure of success and empowerment for the private sector, to protect our nation and uphold the Constitution. The Federal Government is over reaching and is creating division in our communities. Congress is over reaching on social issues, which should be governed on the State and Local level – closest to the people. Congressional leaders have become power hungry and blinded by the desire to control, instead of empower. We have leaders legislating on group rights, instead of upholding individual equality. We have leaders and candidates who are using fear and emotion to create unease.

With an incredibly diverse district and nation, there is opportunity beyond any other. To learn and uplift one another is powerful. To unite is empowering. Together we are strong, divided we will fall.

Leaders and candidates must understand that they represent “All and Every” citizen and cannot put their own personal views in front of the Constitution. When elected, I will represent and serve all citizens, not just those who voted for me.  For it is the Constitution that I will swear to uphold, which provides for equal rights to all American Citizens.

A reminder to all current Congressional Leaders, the following is the oath you took when elected. Uphold it.

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
