Name these three Presidents…
President # 1 is known for the following…
He took the view that the President as a “steward of the people” should take whatever action necessary for the public good unless expressly forbidden by law or the Constitution.” I did not usurp power,” he wrote, “but I did greatly broaden the use of executive power.”
As President, he held the ideal that the Government should be the great arbiter of the conflicting economic forces in the Nation, especially between capital and labor, guaranteeing justice to each and dispensing favors to none.
President #2 is known for the following…
“America is today the strongest, most influential, and most productive nation in the world.” He urged the necessity of maintaining an adequate military strength, but cautioned that vast, long-continued military expenditures could breed potential dangers to our way of life.
In domestic policy the President pursued a middle course, continuing most of the New Deal and Fair Deal programs, emphasizing a balanced budget. As desegregation of schools began, he sent troops into Little Rock, Arkansas, to assure compliance with the orders of a Federal court; he also ordered the complete desegregation of the Armed Forces. “There must be no second class citizens in this country,” he wrote.
President #3 is known for the following…
He obtained an overhaul of the income tax code, which eliminated many deductions and exempted millions of people with low incomes. At the end of his administration, the Nation was enjoying its longest recorded period of peacetime prosperity without recession or depression.
He sought to achieve “peace through strength.” During his two terms he increased defense spending 35 percent, but sought to improve relations with the Soviet Union. In dramatic meetings with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, he negotiated a treaty that would eliminate intermediate-range nuclear missiles. He declared war against international terrorism.
#1 is Theodore Roosevelt our 26th President
#2 is Dwight D Eisenhower our 34th President
#3 is Ronald Reagan our 40th President
3 for 3! I claim no expertise in presidential history but enjoyed these teasers. I’ll thank you by adding my own tidbit to the Eisenhower piece. Folks may not know that the 101st Airborne were sent to Little Rock that year. Your readers may enjoy this: http://www.army.mil/arkansas/
